The theory of historical linguistics: research foci and methodology. Insight into the mechanisms of linguistic change on all linguistic levels. Theory of sound change (the regularity hypothesis, sound change vs. phonology. assimilatory sound changes, dissimilatory sound changes, metathesis, epenthesis, elimination of hiatus, sound change vs. word structure and word function). The mechanism of analogical change. Language contact (borrowing, dialects, koiné, pidgin, creole). Historical semantics. Syntactic change. Sistematization of the principles and methodology in historical comparative linguistics: the comparative method in combination with the principle of internal and external reconstruction.
