The aim is to:
• familiarise students with different fields in descriptive translation studies (describing the result of translation or interpreting, the process of translation or interpreting, the role and function of translation or interpreting in a particular community);
• familiarise students with the methodology used in DTS;
• underline the importance of norms and conventions and other social factors in every production and description of translations or interpreting;
• familiarise students with different possibilities for the selection of the corpus for analysis;
• provide students through the presentation of different DTS studies examples of research into subjective and social influences on translation and interpreting, into ethics, the possible manipulation of the text, the role and status of translation and interpreting in society, and the cognitive processes involved in translating and interpreting.
